Video Broadcats
[ While many would go out of their way to avoid picking up oddities while looking through the items people were trying to sell as they cleared out their clutter in what he could only describe as suspicious spring cleaning… A certain mage had always been rather drawn to picking up items of such a nature (often left behind by other mages who would not appreciate the ‘Scourge of Mage Society’s’ nosiness) and then analyzing and reverse engineering them himself… Maybe making some improvements.
Everyone needed a hobby, right? And at least this meant someone who knew what they were doing was picking stuff up before people who wouldn’t know did.
Of course, not everything always went to plan and sometimes the universe threw you little curveballs for its own amusement… And Waver was many things, amusing when ruffled being one of them. One of the townsfolk had slipped in a ‘bonus’ without his noticing, and while he absolutely could probably solve it… It wasn’t so simple when it presented a very distracting situation.
So… You know… Enjoy the sight of a man on his last nerve and the sound of multiple meows coming from the other end of the feed. Yes, that’s right, he’s got a cursed object that has attracted a bunch of stray cats to his workshop. ]
Afternoon, everyone. I seem to have picked up something a bit… complicated.
[ Gods, this is embarrassing… The man tries to keep a straight face, but there’s a stressed switch in his brows. ]
I’m sure there have been a few people who’ve already picked up oddities that the locals have been trying to get rid of, and while most of the ones I’ve come across have been fascinating finds…
[ No, seriously, his magic-solving brain has enjoyed the workout. ]
It seems something was slipped in that, while I can undo the enchantment, is proving to be more distracting than I can properly focus on.
[ Another meow, the sound of a beaker being pushed off the counter and breaking on the floor, is heard. Waver takes a deep breath. ]
If anyone is good with cats, I would gladly pay them to- stop scratching up my sofa! And you! Get down from there! [ He cleared his throat before trying again. ] I will pay someone to gather and remove these trouble makers before they destroy my workshop!

I can help take them out of there if you need some help.

Ah, Yuki. Yes, if you wouldn’t mind, I’d be glad for the help.
[ The sounds of cat chaos can still be heard despite his best efforts to get the clowder to listen to him. ]
They’re making an absolute mess of everything. I can text you the address of the workshop. It’s in the harbor district.
no subject
Sure, I'd be glad to help out.
no subject
[ The sounds of chaos get louder for a moment, met with a frustrated sound from him and he disappears with a mumble to presumably try to save something. ]
Provided I have a workshop left at all.
no subject
It won't take me long, I'm on my way now.

Knocking on the door, he waited to get a reply. And the mage hadn't been kidding about how many cats were around.]
no subject
Come on in, excuse the mess.
[ He can at least blame that on the feline invaders, though to be fair his workshop was usually a mess, given he wasn’t the best at cleaning and Gray wasn’t here to fuss around the place.
He raised an eyebrow at the sled. ]
I take it you have a plan?
no subject
I'm told there's a shelter for strays and when people come visit them, they're adopted if the people like them enough.
no subject
[ He looked around with a sigh. Where did you even begin with this? The ones keen on getting a little too close to his work were probably the best starting point. He didn’t need anything exploding or getting ruined. ]
You have much experience with wrangling cats, then?
no subject
You could say that.
no subject
Then you’re several steps ahead of me already. My apprentice is better with them than I am, honestly.
[ He mused to himself, watching Yuki get to work before he decided to try his hand at it. His experience had largely been one very stubborn black cat that hadn’t ended well…
So he’s a little more sentimental about this situation than he likes to admit. Moving to try to pick up one cat that was sniffing around some bowls, he frowned awkwardly as it seemed to decide to become a dead weight, as though it would deter him from picking it up. ]
no subject
I'll be fine to get them out of here.
[He smiled at all the cats here.]
But it might take me a little bit.

You have a furbeast there? Have you offered them a large fish? And perhaps to watch entertainment? They are very fond of these things. And of course they may be in tall places. Would you not wish a better vantage point if you were so close to the ground? It would be rude not to allow the precious one to see.
[Wait until she's really processed there are MANY cats. She'd be even more excited.]
no subject
Gods, where does he even start with that? At least he can easily surmise ‘furbeast’ means cat wherever this woman is from. ]
‘Furbeasts’ actually. Plural, as there’s more than one. Four last time I counted- no, scratch that there’s… six now??
[ How are they even getting IN to the workshop?? Regardless, he pans the phone across the workshop that has been invaded by ‘furbeasts.’ There are indeed six cats of varying colours and sizes making themselves at home. Some were up high along shelves and others were on his counter without any care for the delicate instruments and experiments he’d already been working on. Others were, indeed, using his sofa as a scratching post. It’s pandemonium. ]
And frankly, they’re seeing quite enough without risking knocking down things stored on my upper shelves.
no subject
I shall ask Gili if I might take the afternoon off to acquire fish. They must all be so hungry.
no subject
Gili… Oh, you work at the forge.
[ Absent minded comment, because he knows he’d seen Lauri-El around before. Probably when passing by the forge to get to where he is now. ]
I suppose their being hungry might make their behavior make sense. I’ll pay you for the fish then.
[ Anything to return peace to his workshop. Gray was the one who was better with animals than he was, after all. Or at least cats in general. ]
no subject
Yes. I am Journeywoman Lauri-Ell. And I am happy to pay for the fish to help the cats. They are good creatures. Even if you call them something silly like 'cats'.
no subject
It’s nice to officially meet you then, Lauri-Ell. I’m Waver Velvet.
[ The fact that he’s getting used to saying that again is both weird and a good thing, he thinks. ]
In my experience, they are generally disruptive and prone to getting into things.
[ He does not deny they are good creatures, but he also would not be him if he did not grumble somewhat. A sign that Waver is fond of someone or something, to some extent, is his grumbling. ]
I take it furbeast is the proper term for them where you’re from?
no subject
[Distracted. Don't judge her.]
The Kree do not have them. But it is a beast and furry.
no subject
Ah, yes, that’s correct? It’s not really a common last name, if that’s what you mean.
[ So she came from somewhere without cats at all. Interesting, he kind of wishes there were no cats here right now. ]
I see, I suppose that’s accurate… But aren’t there a lot of things that could be described as furry beasts around here?
[ Listen, he needs to ask, even as he disappears from the feed with a panicked sound to try to pick up a cat that was getting a little too close to a magical experiment of his. One can hear a harried ‘Do you want to keep your whiskers?? Geez, get out of that!’ ]
no subject
[The background of the shot of her face shows movement now. Clearly she's heading out to buy fish.]
There were the flerkin, when they came to visit. And you should not chide curiosity. It is important for all learning.
no subject
[ This is a weird conversation, he decides as he awkwardly responded. Not a bad one, just a weird one. ]
Flerkin… I believe I heard talk of those, but I didn’t end up running into any. [ no because he was stuck running around the forests around Aterat that week.
Tsking, he loses his grip on the cat that proceeds to at least find something ELSE to get into. ]
As a teacher, I would agree, but letting a cat that doesn’t know any better to stick its face into a bowl of something caustic isn’t exactly a good idea.
no subject
Are you certain the cat cannot learn? They are wise creatures in their own way.
Though I suppose caustic is a good argument.
no subject
Supposedly, but that doesn’t mean they can’t come to harm if they aren’t careful. Then they end up causing trouble for themselves and the people who weren’t around to stop it.
[ There’s a slightly bitter edge to his tone there, but he breathed a sigh of relief once he has the bowl secured and covered for now. ]
