It's a Watts party! (Just don't tell him)
Who; Aerith + YOU
What; Potluck party
Where; Gray building's downstairs common room
When; Sunday June 26th; after 4pm
Warnings; None
Aerith co-opted the common room of the gray building starting on Saturday when she began the process of decoration. The most important part of any decoration (especially for Watts) was the flowers and Aerith had put together a few center pieces for tables. Each flower that she'd chosen had symbolized friendship in some way and they were set up in the center of small tables that had been brought inside. Of course she wasn't the one that moved those tables, she had a trust bodyguard for things like that, but she did the decorating!
And the cooking! The main attraction was a pretzel bar in the center of the room. Please, thank Cloud for bringing it in and Jacob for making the pretzel rack at Aerith's request. The soft pretzels were premade and there were plenty for everyone who may come through to have several (if not more). In addition to that there were also several dipping sauces to choose from including cheese, caramel, cinnamon sugar, honey mustard, and a spicy ginger sauce with chili flakes (eat at your own risk).
A table next to it had Materia Xiaolongbao. Yellow is crab flavor, black is soybean, blue is pork, green is cilantro, and red is spicy shrimp. Next to those are tiny moogle sweet bean buns. They fit in the palm of your hand but some of the moogles look...a lot better than others. She did her best!
There was another table with a few drinks set up for people to grab including a materia bomb cocktail with a bit of alcohol and different flavored materia ice (peach, strawberry, and blueberry) and bright green bubble tea with pop bubbles in the bottom. The green tea is flavored like something very different than one might expect it to be, it's a bit bit bitter and yet also a bit sharp, almost biting. It's meant to be the flavor of wind, whatever that's supposed to be. The pop bubbles are extremely sour and explode in the mouth with the sourness. The drink is also somehow fizzy, don't ask how.
A third table was empty save for the friendship bouquet at it's center. There was a little handwritten note on the table saying:
Leave your dishes here! Complete with a heart.
Aerith herself can be found wandering around and paying close attention to the drink table, making sure to run back to the kitchen quickly to grab more drinks if they run low.
OOC: Feel free to use this log as an open thing for anyone to mingle and get to know each other. Characters are welcome even if they didn't bring a dish themselves, but the more dishes the better! Anyone is welcome to come even if they didn't know she was throwing this party, it'd be pretty obvious that there was something going on in the Gray Building and she'll be leaving the door open with a small table that has a friendship flower bouquet on it. Please have some fun!

Ivy | Open
Yeah, that was the word for it. This all seemed ridiculously wholesome. Yet, here she was, a living vampire participating in a wholesome community potluck. Everyone back home would sure get a kick out of this. The worst part was she even looked the part of the out of place vampire: long black hair down, a sleevless black top, black pants, and a large silver cross necklace. In both hands she was carrying a tray with a large homemade pizza with cheese and a ridiculous amount of garlic and tomato sauce. She'd brought something like this to another event here, but it was kind of the thing she was best at making. Why try to redefine the wheel?
She put the pizza down awkwardly then immediately found her way over to the drink section. Maybe that'd at least make her a bit more comfortable with this entire thing.

At least the best way to cope with that was by eating pretzels (and sharing a few pieces with his canine companion of the same name). Which is what he was doing when he happened to notice Ivy setting what looked like a pizza on the table, his eyes lighting up since he hadn’t found a good place for pizza here as yet. Investigating (like all good detectives do, as Ivy knew well) the table curiously. He raised a brow as he realized it was homemade and looked amazing. “I didn’t know you could cook.” Popped out first, before he ducked his head in greeting and tucked a pretzel in his pocket for later. “And afternoon- it’s good to see you, Ivy.”
It was good to see her out at an event. That was… progress on not being a vampire hermit or running into her at the tavern awkwardly, right?

"I grew up working in Pizza Piscary's. Lived there for a while too." She rolled her shoulders as if a vampire pizza place was the most normal thing one could talk about. "It's nice to see you here too." Better than running into him while he was drinking away his problems.

So it was an interesting detail about her life to learn about, something quite different compared to everything else. “I see, so you’re uh- actually something of an expert at pizza, then?” He added with a small smile, reaching for a plate. He could go back for pretzels anytime, but trying some of Ivy’s pizza would be absolutely necessary now that he knew.
And Llewellyn offered a wry smile to the comment, getting the feeling there was ‘and not at the tavern’ implied at the end of her greeting. “Yes, I am rather well acquainted with the host. I uh- work for Aerith at the flower shop, and she was quite excited about the idea.” And had clearly put a lot of work into it, so how could he not attend? And… Well, it was at least informal and not as large as a full party would have been. It was a nice way to ease in to socializing outside the tavern or work again, perhaps.
Plus, it really did seem to be doing wonders for bringing people together, what with the influx of new arrivals he’d noticed.

"Piscary's the expert," she replied wryly as she watched him take a slice. There was expectation in her eyes, betraying that she was pretty eager to hear what he thought. "I just picked up some knowledge here and there while Kist and I lived there. Sometimes he made us work during the summer." She shrugged. "Must be hard to imagine my ancient Egyptian undead Master working in a Pizzeria, huh? Killer cook though." In more ways than one. Not only was the place one of the highest rated food places around, it was also one of the most well known vampire dens in the city.
"I've spoken to her a few times. Nice shop. Cheery girl." Bit too cheery for Ivy's tastes, even if her own abilities meant she could recognize someone who might be hiding some of their emotions. "I can't really remember the last time I went to anything like this. Not really the type of party I went to back home."

“I confess, it is an odd mental image to try to put together…?” But the pizza had captured his interest, and it didn’t take him long to take a slice for his plate for sampling. Absentmindedly listening to her explanation as he eyed it thoughtfully. She seemed to be brushing the suggestion off… But he was pretty sure that, expert or not, it was going to be delicious. It was already leaps and bounds better than anything he or Rhy could make. As much as they were trying to get better at that. Llewellyn showing the least improvement on that front. So he took a bite, getting the distinct feeling she was waiting to find out if it was as good as he guessed.
And it was delicious! A pleased, enthusiastic hum escaping at the flavour. “I uh- hate to argue, but I believe you are at least an expert at making them, compared to many pizzas I’ve had in the past. Clearly, you absorbed more than you realized.” He responded with a small shake of his head, offering a small grin. How did people do this? How did they make something that tasted so good?
Llewellyn, if he were the sort to gossip about a friend, would have offered that Ivy was probably right. But he wasn’t, and though concerned, he respected Aerith’s privacy on that front… Unless it was directly tied to someone else. So he instead nodded in agreement with Ivy’s next comment. “Nor have I, at least not for quite some time…? It’s… Rather nice to see everyone gathered like this.” Jack hadn’t done parties after he got married to protect his ‘cover,’ and then Milo…? Milo had liked things a little more opulent and far from low-key. Then the rest had more or less… decided who the ‘in group’ was, and he hadn’t made the cut by the way things had fallen outside work.
So being included now, with his friends and in a setting a little less uncomfortable, was a nice way to ease back in.

"Why do I feel like that's not the compliment you think it is?" She couldn't really imagine him making an entire pizza. She could imagine him burning an entire pizza, but making one? She wasn't so sure there. She sighed though. "Maybe I'll accept pizza expert of this place as a new title. I'm currently without one." For the first time in years. It was actually weirder than she'd thought it'd be to not really have a profession or title here. Sometimes it led to her being more bored than she could ever recall being. "Glad you're enjoying it though." Another thing she strangely meant. It was kind of nice to have someone enjoy something she'd made this much. "I know how to make them with just about any topping, so if you ever want one..." She probably wouldn't mind making it.
"We don't really do things like this back home. Fancy Christmas parties and nightclubs are more what I'm used to." Thankfully she hadn't run into anyone trying to hold an upscale Christmas shindig here. Small favors. "Guess it is nice to see a sense of community or whatever you'd call it."

He offered a soft laugh. “I hope you would take it as a compliment. It’s uh- true that Toronto in my era doesn’t have the greatest selection for things like pizza as yet… But! I do have another entire world of experience to pull from other than my own, as well.” And he had gone out for pizza with people a few times there, trying all manner of odd toppings and styles. So! This was, indeed, a decent compliment. At least, he thought it was. “Considering I haven’t seen pizza here so far, I bet ‘Pizza Expert’ is a role that needs filling, too.” He added with a grin. Making pizzas and investigating cases, not a bad way to pass the time, he supposed.
The offer gets a curious expression. “I wouldn’t mind trying other toppings, if you mean that… Perhaps you could even give me some pointers one day.” He added, though she probably didn’t need that kind of disaster on her hands. He was, after all, quite hopeless in the kitchen. Glancing around at the party again, though, he nodded lightly. “I think I’d call it that… A rarity in most places as time passes, but it’s nice to see here.” It was easy to imagine Ivy attending fancier gatherings, of course. But those did seem to be a little rarer around here. Not that he was complaining, either.

The problem with Ivy just taking a compliment at face value came down to the fact that she still wasn't used to a compliment being just a compliment. Her world was one of double meanings and ulterior motives. "Thanks," she said with just a hint of stiff awkwardness.
"Not sure if a pizza expert is really what this place needs. Then again, haven't really found any places that sell it." Which had been kind of disappointing. She let out a laugh and raised an eyebrow. "Why wouldn't I mean it?" Though she kept laughing at his offer. "I have been wanting something more dangerous to sink my teeth into." And him in the kitchen? It definitely seemed on the side of danger.
"Wonder if people are honest about it or if it's forced."

But Nida? He was eyeing that pizza with true longing.
"Is it the same one as last time?" he asked her, clearly excited. "I have wanted another slice of your pizza for SO long. My husband makes his so thin crust and that's what he likes, but man, I wanted this one!"
no subject
"I'm surprised anyone remembered it well enough to want another slice."
no subject
"I wish I'd lived near a pizzeria," Nida laughs. His husband was okay at it but he would manage without. "I've been hoping on this for a while honestly. Thank you for making it again."
no subject
"If I'd known someone liked it that much I might have been persuaded to make another." She tilted her head and then added on: "I still could be. Is there a toping combination you'd like?"
no subject
"I'm going to get judged. Sardines and hot peppers."
no subject
"Only a bit of judgement," she quirked her lips. "Guess nobody can say you don't have unique tastes."

He noted how Ivy had placed her pizza and convinced himself it could only be so awkward of he helped himself to a slice of her pizza before walking over. He grabbed a plate, at least, and had a napkin. It was all civilized and everything. He even had the presence of mind to swallow before he said anything.
"Hey. You're pretty good at the whole pizza thing."
no subject
What she didn't like was his outfit, which she gave a quick once over and then arched an eyebrow. "Surprised you didn't say howdy first," her voice was throaty, clearly with a more flirtatious edge to it than a judgmental one. Though...there was definitely a bit of judgement there. Just a bit.
"I used to live above a Pizzeria."
no subject
"I can do better." He reached a hand up to the brim of his hat, pulling it down slightly as he tilted his head in a slight nod. He stretched the next words out in a long, Texas drawl. "I tell you what, little lady, this here's some mighty fine Pizza you're peddlin'. I reckon I ought to have me another piece, 'specially considerin' it's made all professional-like."
no subject
"If I could ask for the pizza back, I would." The worst part was that she was having to hide just the slightest hint of a smile on her lips. Did she actually find it...charming? That was actually the most embarrassing part of the entire thing. "Should I be concerned with how good you are at that?"
no subject
A lot of things, really, but this was a friendly party and there was no reason to drudge up the past. "So, aside from second-hand embarrassment, how are you enjoying the community building party?"
no subject
"The answer to that depends on if you're going to ask me how the weather's been." Sure, things were awkward after what had happened. That was a give-in. And sure, she'd avoided the hell out of him since then, so this awkwardness was on her too. But did it really have to be this awkward? She gave a reluctant shrug though. "It's not really the type of party I'm used to."
no subject
"No weather talk, I promise." It was awkward, but he was powerful through. He'd dealt with his share of awkward conversations in the past and he could press on through this one, too. He nodded in agreement. "Me either. It kind of has that...neighborhood bake sale feeling to it, doesn't it?" Which he'd heard of, but he'd also never lived in a suburb. "Wholesome, down-to-Earth. It's one steeple short of a church community center, and I mean that in the best way possible."
no subject
"Been to a lot of neighborhood bake sales?" she raised an eyebrow as her lips curled into a smirk. "I can see you at one." If only to get the cookies they might be selling. "I miss my church."
