It's a Watts party! (Just don't tell him)
Who; Aerith + YOU
What; Potluck party
Where; Gray building's downstairs common room
When; Sunday June 26th; after 4pm
Warnings; None
Aerith co-opted the common room of the gray building starting on Saturday when she began the process of decoration. The most important part of any decoration (especially for Watts) was the flowers and Aerith had put together a few center pieces for tables. Each flower that she'd chosen had symbolized friendship in some way and they were set up in the center of small tables that had been brought inside. Of course she wasn't the one that moved those tables, she had a trust bodyguard for things like that, but she did the decorating!
And the cooking! The main attraction was a pretzel bar in the center of the room. Please, thank Cloud for bringing it in and Jacob for making the pretzel rack at Aerith's request. The soft pretzels were premade and there were plenty for everyone who may come through to have several (if not more). In addition to that there were also several dipping sauces to choose from including cheese, caramel, cinnamon sugar, honey mustard, and a spicy ginger sauce with chili flakes (eat at your own risk).
A table next to it had Materia Xiaolongbao. Yellow is crab flavor, black is soybean, blue is pork, green is cilantro, and red is spicy shrimp. Next to those are tiny moogle sweet bean buns. They fit in the palm of your hand but some of the moogles look...a lot better than others. She did her best!
There was another table with a few drinks set up for people to grab including a materia bomb cocktail with a bit of alcohol and different flavored materia ice (peach, strawberry, and blueberry) and bright green bubble tea with pop bubbles in the bottom. The green tea is flavored like something very different than one might expect it to be, it's a bit bit bitter and yet also a bit sharp, almost biting. It's meant to be the flavor of wind, whatever that's supposed to be. The pop bubbles are extremely sour and explode in the mouth with the sourness. The drink is also somehow fizzy, don't ask how.
A third table was empty save for the friendship bouquet at it's center. There was a little handwritten note on the table saying:
Leave your dishes here! Complete with a heart.
Aerith herself can be found wandering around and paying close attention to the drink table, making sure to run back to the kitchen quickly to grab more drinks if they run low.
OOC: Feel free to use this log as an open thing for anyone to mingle and get to know each other. Characters are welcome even if they didn't bring a dish themselves, but the more dishes the better! Anyone is welcome to come even if they didn't know she was throwing this party, it'd be pretty obvious that there was something going on in the Gray Building and she'll be leaving the door open with a small table that has a friendship flower bouquet on it. Please have some fun!

"No weather talk, I promise." It was awkward, but he was powerful through. He'd dealt with his share of awkward conversations in the past and he could press on through this one, too. He nodded in agreement. "Me either. It kind of has that...neighborhood bake sale feeling to it, doesn't it?" Which he'd heard of, but he'd also never lived in a suburb. "Wholesome, down-to-Earth. It's one steeple short of a church community center, and I mean that in the best way possible."
no subject
"Been to a lot of neighborhood bake sales?" she raised an eyebrow as her lips curled into a smirk. "I can see you at one." If only to get the cookies they might be selling. "I miss my church."
no subject
A grin split his face, though. He'd gotten control, and he was practically himself again. That was something. "I've been guilty of crashing one or two, yeah. You know, I've noticed the cross, but I've never taken you for the religious type. Maybe I just hang out with really intense religious people." Like Knights of the Cross, but that was another story.
no subject
"Not surprised to hear that. I imagine you could buy them out of their cookies," she said with a wry smile. "I lived in a church," she said with a chuckle. "I'm not religious in the slightest, but it's good for keeping my mother away." Not so much Piscary, he was too strong for that, but false comfort was still comfort.
no subject
It seemed as though they both still had some demons to work through. "You know, I think that's the first time you've mentioned your mother." And that was a nice, safe subject change at least from his perspective. You know, unless she started asking about his mother. Then things would get awkward again.
no subject
She let out a bitter little huff. "We don't really get along." That...was putting it mildly. "I'm the last of the Tamwood's and she had an entire life mapped out for me. I was supposed to be Piscary's Scion, Tamwood's have always been his favorite and someone getting that role? Most people would kill for it." She waved a hand in annoyance. "She wanted me to settle down, make more Tamood's then die and live forever at our Master's side as his favorite." Needless to say, that hadn't been what Ivy wanted. "Joining the IS and then quitting to start my own agency with a witch in a church? Not what she had in mind."
no subject
"Maybe. I am one stubborn bastard, after all." He reached up, bending the brim of his hat slightly in a gentlemanly if completely facetious manner. "Wait, you work out of a church, too? Is it still consecrated?" Because that is almost, not it is completely, poetic, and makes him like her all the more for it.
no subject
"Yeah, still consecrated. Wouldn't work for the purpose of pissing my mom off if it wasn't." And that was really the most important part. "I even renovated the little kitchen it had so it'd work better for Rachel's potion making. Bell tower works great for my owls."
no subject
"You...raise owls?" That was actually pretty cool.
no subject
"Yeah, they're helpful on cases." Plus...she just liked the company. "Kinda miss them. Good thing time supposedly doesn't pass back home. They hated Rachel."
no subject
"Hold on. What hitmen? I thought you said the IS was basically like the FBI."
He wondered if she wanted a pet, too. He'd be lying if he said he didn't miss his cat or Mouse. Damn if he didn't miss that smarter than he had any business being mongrel.
no subject
"They weren't happy that she took me." In the end, she suspected that'd played a pretty large part in things.
no subject
"So, the I.S. is the mafia, then, and Rachel has a hit on her head because she pre-termed her contract? Does any contract ever naturally end?"
no subject
"They're contracts, obviously they end eventually."
no subject
He wondered if the same was the case for her world and for her people, if humans in the Hollows were ever forced to deal with things beyond their understanding.
no subject
no subject
"Yeah, actually." He adjusted his hat to a dramatic angle. "Warden Dresden, at your service, ma'am." Because joking about it was a lot easier than going in to the horrible situation that led to his being deputized, or the fact that he caused it. This was supposed to be a party.
no subject
"Ah, forgive me, Warden Dresden it'll be from now on." That got a genuine laugh from her, which was a rarity for someone as serious as Ivy.
no subject
He raised a hand in surrender. "In their defense, they were desperate for manpower at the time of my being drafted."
no subject
"Ah, explains it." Desperation makes sense.
no subject
It sounded like their faeries were very different. "They come in a lot of forms, though. There's the Seelie court, the Summer fae, the Unseelie, and then the Wyld fae, who aren't beholden to either court but sort of keep their own council. Loosely."
no subject
"They sound more organized and intelligent in your world than mine." She also wondered if that made them more dangerous. Fairies in her world were just...annoying more than anything.
no subject
"Faeries? Sure. They're immortal, soulless beings with agendas."
no subject
"They're soulless in your world?" That hit a chord.
no subject
"That, or they have souls that us mere mortals can't fathom." He paused for a moment, working on wording what he was going to say next. "In my world, when you delve into the deeper mysteries of magic, or whatever other fancy term means 'can see more than most people', you just...can? You can see things most people can't. Wizards can do something called 'Soul Gazing'. If we meet your eyes for longer than a few seconds, we see through them, see everything that makes you you in that moment, and see us in return. It's why I don't meet your eyes, I don't want to force that on you. It's...deeply intimate and you can never forget what you see, but I don't have to worry about meeting a Faerie's eyes. They either don't have a soul to gaze upon or it's so alien I can't see it."
