CEMETERY PLAYER PLOT

Who; Open to Everyone Interested.
What; Cemetery Plot
Where; Cemetery.
When; November 16th.
Warnings; Fighting & Undead & possibly gross descriptions if people get really into it.

The Sewers were nauseating. They were, after all, sewers. However these sewers were an intricate multi-tiered Labyrinth that have fallen into disrepair. It was best to stay close. Not all of the sewers were mapped out and it would take a rescue team to find anyone who had lost their way. Not only that, the sewers were littered with monsters of all kinds and varying degrees of danger. It was best to stay together.

Yuna held out a half sphere in her palm, providing a light for those following behind her. Their movements were slow and as soft as they could make them given that they're traveling in such a large group. The path, for those tracking their movements through the city, takes them northeast towards the shambling undead guarding the doorway to the Lich.

The plan was simple. Yuna and her team would go inside while Caelan guarded the door outside. Caelan was to take the key from Yuna and lock behind them with the intention to unlock the door after the Lich was dead. Yuna wasn't going to risk this monster getting into the city. It didn't matter how confident she was. She also didn't know if their phones would work beyond the shield, so there was likely no calling for help once they were inside.

[ooc notes: the monster is a Lich and I will be rolling dice to determine how well it attacks. There are a lot of zombies both in the Lich fight and outside that can be NPC-ed by anyone. The shield around the cemetery will hold through this fight and be safe on the street levels. If you have any questions please let me know on the plotting post. Also note, the lich is immune to all non-magical attacks. Feel free to make top levels for any time during this event. The Lich fight is below.]

In spite of the seriousness of the situation, Ignis found himself smiling as he heard Caelan do what the lads would refer to as 'trash talking'. It certainly kept the mood a little lighter considering what was going on. He swiped with the fire daggers at a particularly nasty looking skeleton, as it seemed to be covered in some sort of green slime..something. The stench alone would've probably knocked anyone out. But he discovered the slime seemed pretty flammable and so he used his dagger to push the creature towards an oncoming chain of unpleasant undead.

There was a smile as it gave them a moment to rest. "Fire indeed appears to be a good ally against these creatures." So much for kicking daggers at them. Ignis too could infuse his daggers with ice or lightning, but if Fire was where it was at, he would go with what worked. And there wasn't enough room to high jump at them.

That Ignis could appreciate Caelan’s banter with their rather witless opponents was good, because it was unlikely to stop anytime soon. As it was, there was a small bit of stress relief in this job. So much pent up frustration that he’d been containing over the last few weeks, few months even, with this world. Considering how little he could do, how little control he’d had over the situation, especially after dying... It was good to have the upper hand on something.

Decapitating the next zombie, he stepped over its corpse to drive the others back a little further. The more room there was around the door the better, after all. “It’s something to note for the future. Working out the weakness could prove useful if this ever gets to be a problem again. The sewers are full of these bloody things.”

Part of him rather wished Ignis was on the other side of the door at that realization, unsure if anyone who went in had fire magic or not. It would be useful if the liche was similar to the undead in any way...

"You can just break them at their separation points." Ignis smiled. To him it was like cooking, you broke bones at their weakest points in order to get the job done easier and faster. Bones broke whether that was a creature you were cooking or threatening a human or if you were dealing with walking piles of them.

Well now Ignis knew that the sewers were full of these things and if he ever felt the need to train more he could come down here at some point and have at them. How they continued to be a thing bothered him though. But maybe that's what Yuna and her team would find out.

That gets a small chuckle out of him, “Well, sure, those of us who know how to take something or someone apart can do that just fine. There’re people who aren’t so skilled with blades, though. If magic is more their forte, the fire weakness is a good one to know.”

Sidestepping lightly away from one to come up behind it and knock it over, he considered something. “Honestly, not a bad idea to start compiling how things down here work. Even stuff that seems familiar to me isn’t the same... and I don’t know about you, but I’ve already had a hard time discouraging someone from exploring down here on their own.”

Normally he might not have cared about it so much. The map was enough for him to feel more confident in wandering around down here. Unfortunately, there was a small pre-teen vampire that he didn’t trust to not get into trouble if he ever disappeared again.

"That it is." Ignis agreed easily enough. Caelan seemed to be really funny while being resourceful and clever at the same time. And all were good points in his book.

Also the way he could be in battle and still ponder things was fascinating to Ignis as well. So that earned points in his book too, though obviously the other couldn't know that at all. The new path of information was a good one, one that he would completely consider even as he dismissed the fire for a moment to summon and throw a dagger right at an approaching skeleton skull.

"Sounds like an excellent plan. Then at least people would know what to expect should they decide to take the sewers as a route to get to where they need to go."

He of course knew Nida knew how to fight, but didn't know how much the man knew about all of the different denizens of the place. And it wouldn't hurt for the children here to know as well as anyone that may or may not accompany them on their journey.

Caelan had the benefit of time on his side. Almost two hundred years gave a troublemaker like him plenty of experience. The fact that he looked as young as he did often made others underestimate him, or impressed them. Balancing and multitasking was important when you spent most of your time tricking humans and pulling off elaborate heists. Things could go wrong at a moment’s notice. You had to learn to stay on your toes and to think on the fly when things didn’t go off as planned. This wasn’t nearly so complicated, just a little more dangerous.

“Nice shot, Ignis.” He responded with a grin, eyes darting to the skeleton that’s skull had just been impaled. Really, the few people he’d met that could summon weapons like that were very impressive. That was a rare ability, and a useful one. He had to be careful to keep a hand on his own weapons, to lose them would be inconvenient for so any reasons.

The selkie huffed lightly, darting around behind another one of the undead to avoid being grabbed and kicked the back of its legs out from under it before turning on another. “Exactly, they’re a convenient shortcut.” Or get away route... “At least as long as you don’t get cornered by anything.”

"Thank you." Ignis replied graciously to the compliment. And it made him think of Noct and the lads and how they did that often. The thought made him miss them all of a sudden, but he'd be no good to Caelan, Nida or them if they showed if he passed away here.

"It depends on the skill of the person attempting to cut their way through here." That was said as he summoned another dagger and stabbed it through the skull, kicking the rest of it into the murky water nearby. There seemed to be no end in sight to these things, but maybe that's because of what else was going on.

But he'd taken on plenty of foes in Altissia so this was no different. Fortunately none of them had guns. "I suppose it will give us something to do if we sit about complaining of boredom."

“And with the random frequency of people arriving or leaving, it makes less sense to put in the effort to track everyone’s skill levels as easily as we can just gather and compile information on the creatures down here to at least give everyone a chance.” That was the problem, not everyone had the skills to be using the sewers as shortcuts. He’d met a few people who came from rather normal worlds without magic by comparison, though at least that seemed to be a rarity so far.

Caelan couldn’t help but grin though at the idea of boredom setting in that much. Turning on his heel to drive a knife into another foe, Caelan responded with an amused tone. “If you ever hear me complaining of boredom, that means I’m likely five minutes from making things less boring.” He responded jokingly. Well... the selkie wasn’t exactly joking about that. It was just likely to be more chaotic than necessary.

"True." Ignis said, slicing a head off of a skeleton and watching it roll away to somewhere. And just as he thought to wonder if there shouldn't be guides or guards down here to escort people and of course keeping to the monsters they could safely handle, Caelan went and sounded like a mischief maker. Well he definitely knew of two rascals back home that could fit that very same bill.

"Indeed. Well, these denizens should certainly be able to keep us out of trouble for awhile yet." Because it seemed the horde of 'customers' just kept coming and Ignis wondered if whenever Yuna and her team finished off the main lich, if all of these bones would just stop moving.

But if they would start up again, that might be a good idea to move them? He didn't know, this he would have to speak with Yuna about.

[personal profile] stickyflippers 2020-12-22 04:15 am (UTC)(link)
Ignis wasn’t wrong, mischief was very much a part of his very nature. The problem was, he did sometimes get carried away with it, and that’s when the real trouble started. It was why his team was so important back home, they knew when it was time to step in and snap him out of it.

He couldn’t say what would happen when he lich was dead, but it would be interesting to know if these things were actually tied to it or if they were simply something that lingered in the sewers. He chuckled slightly, shoving one of the undead creatures into another to knock them off balance and into the sewer waters with a satisfying little splash. “Yeah, this’ll do for now. Not my usual brand of busy, but I’m always up for helping a friend.”

And Yuna had given him things to do here, she was a good friend and he’d do what he could to lend a hand if he was able.

Ignis knew they could handle this 'riff raff' as he mentally termed them. But he did worry about Yuna and her team, wondering if they would be able to get things handled or not. Yuna was such a wonderful person and he'd been there by her side during the bear situation. Now though she had another team with her which he was sure would be alright. It was just a matter of if there was any runoff afterwards. And no doubt that team would be exhausted.

Looking down now when the undead made a splash into the water, the advisor shook his head. "Hopefully they don't reassemble themselves, though it looks like we might be at this for some time." He nodded to Caelan. "I also have healing potions should they become necessary." And he kept them for times such as this.
stickyflippers: (Default)

[personal profile] stickyflippers 2020-12-25 01:55 am (UTC)(link)
Caelan glanced at Ignis with a little curiosity, healing potions? “Yeah? Those could come in handy, better that we not need them at all though.” He had experience with people using healing magic here, but it was hard to say if a potion would work or not considering he wasn’t exactly a human. Human made potions weren’t always effective on the fae, and he had to be careful.

He did have a jar of sea-fae made healing balm, but that was for emergencies only. Like iron burns. Not something he expected he could replenish in this world.

The idea of these undead creatures reassembling themselves is met with a wrinkle of his nose, he did not like the idea at all. “Well if they do go putting themselves back together, I guess we’ll know why there always seems to be so many down here.” Because if they never properly died, then it wasn’t as though this was going to do much more than stall the things. “Then again, they do seem to collapse rather quickly if you destroy the skull.” He’s just short, and needs to keep cutting them down a little.

As long as they can keep the entrance clear for if Yuna and the others needed a quick exit, that was good enough for him for now. He trusted Yuna a lot, she was a capable woman and seemed more than able to handle herself. The way she talked, she clearly had experience with these things and she had a good team with her. Caelan just hoped she’d been right, even the best laid plans could go awry in his experience.

[personal profile] faithfulsupport 2020-12-25 08:09 am (UTC)(link)
"Of course." Healing was used when it was needed and Ignis had a technique that he could use too. He just hadn't ever tested it here to see if his 'regroup' would be useful, though in his mind it stood to reason that it should in fact work just the same.

The discussion of the skulls got him thinking as he severed the head from a spine and crushed it with his boot heel. "It makes me wonder if we could find someone like the Oracle from back home..someone with some sort of holy powers, if it would be possible for the bones to permanently rest." Of course, that was provided the lich herself wasn't controlling them, causing the unrest.

But so far as he knew from the last battle, Yuna was the closest thing they had to that. However, all of that was going to have to wait until after this fight was over to see if it was the lich or if something else could be done.

“That I can’t tell you for certain,” The fae weren’t generally welcome around the holy, many graveyards walled by iron fences for a few reasons. But it was an interesting point. Of course, that only brings his mind to what Yuna spoke of when they started organizing this. “But Yuna seemed to indicate to me that putting the dead to rest was something she was accustomed to back in her world? She could sense the souls trapped within the cemetery walls, which was what drew her attention to all this.”

Which was why, as rare as it was for him to take in interest in ghosts or the dead, he had volunteered to help her out. That and his need to map out the sewers in the first place, of course.
faithfulsupport: (And?)

[personal profile] faithfulsupport 2020-12-28 12:56 am (UTC)(link)
Ignis nodded after crouching low and coming up to cut the legs of a few of the skeletons coming towards them. But at listening further to Caelan's words, there was more to Yuna than met the eye, didn't that figure. It made him smile but that was replaced by a grim look as he reignited his daggers to cut through an oncoming flood of skeletons.

"Then they must be drawn to her if she can sense them." Which in this case was bad if the lich was up and about.

Caelan would say, if he were asked, that most people in this world had more to them than met the eye. It was almost funny, in a way.

“I’m not entirely sure how her ability works, but it is possible. Especially if spirits want to be put to rest, I can’t imagine if I could become a ghost that I’d enjoy the whole... trapped in a weird limbo with so many rules and missing out on much.”

"You made an interesting point there Caelan." Ignis replied with a nod at the man himself. And then his green eyes saw a skeleton with two additional skulls in its hands. Well now that was interesting.

It threw both at him and he managed to block one with his fire dagger. But then he sent the other sailing at the spinal column and down it went, crashing into the black water.

What would it be like to be deceased and have all the time in the world to do nothing and more than likely be bored?

That draws a small chuckle from him, “I do pride myself in making those now and again, Ignis.” Forever chatty, always making a point to keep a conversation interesting. It was a habit of his, and a valuable one when he was trying to endear himself to a mark. Problem was, the selkie rarely turned the habit off.

As some would say, he had the gift of gab.

Continuing his little dance of take the dead out at the knee and then removing the head, he hummed a little. “If I were a ghost,” Which he knew he’d never be, being fae and all. Dead was dead, unless you were here apparently. “I’d probably make a habit of being a pain in the ass to those who deserve it, you know? Just constant ghostly harassment. Knock stuff over, noise all night, yeah?”

Not much different from alive, then.

[personal profile] faithfulsupport 2020-12-31 06:47 am (UTC)(link)
Caelan got a smile from Ignis about having a point as he smashed in some rib cages and just kicked a few that fell like dominoes. It was almost comical in a way. Almost.

But the sorting was what got the advisor intrigued. "Indeed. And how would you go about deciding who was to be haunted or who wasn't?" This gave him more entertaining thoughts of ghost Caelan sort of being more mischievous as a spirit than being downright scary or malicious.
stickyflippers: (3)

[personal profile] stickyflippers 2021-01-01 04:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Ignis wasn’t particularly wrong in his imagined ghost-Caelan. The selkie was a little more prone to the mischievous than the malicious... Unless someone tugged at his temper in a particular way. Just ask some whalers that crossed him and his crew during his time at sea a few years back.

Ducking easily under an outreached arm, he grabbed it instead and used the momentum to send the undead into another to land in a heap that he could dispatch with a few slices. “Now that’s a good question, Ignis.” He grinned a little, glancing over at the other man. “Being a ghost, it’d be a lot easier to follow a possible mark. See how they interact with others, watch for red flags, get a look at their lives before deciding to instigate some chaos.”

Honestly, he was a bit of an expert at spotting people in need of a lesson at this point.

Ignis laughed and used his fire infused dagger to cut through quite a few bones here and there as he imagined Caelan just bothering people simply because he could.

A skeleton came up with a sword and the advisor jumped back a little before moving quickly around it to slash his way up the ribcage and push the oncoming next few back with a well placed kick. And that's when his eyes spotted something bigger coming up the back.

Turning to look at Caelan he nodded. "Better be ready, as we have another guest incoming."

Caelan shoved another of the undead out of his path, before turning back to face Ignis with a raised brow. “Define bigger?” He responded and tilted his head in the direction Ignis was looking...

The bleedin’ hell is that?” He squinted a bit before tightening the grip on his daggers, “Ah, grand. Just grand. Suppose that checks out with what’s going on.” The fight within must be calling more formidable creatures to the doorway, to help or something...

[personal profile] faithfulsupport 2021-01-10 06:06 am (UTC)(link)
Ignis' smile was razor sharp. "I have a feeling we're going to find out rather soon." And the other's words did make him wonder if indeed the something bigger coming their way was going to be as formidable and nasty as those topside would be facing.

And as soon as the monsters cleared out, it reared its rather ugly head. Ignis had never seen such a misshapen pile of flesh and he'd never seen such a mass before. Didn't matter, they had to dispose of it quickly so they could get topside. It was the advisor's goal at least to be able to help Yuna and her crew.

“Hello tall, dark and undead.” Caelan muttered as the much larger zombie came into view. This one appeared to move with a little more ease than it’s counterparts did as well. Probably influenced by the dark magics that had been awoken.

Backing up some, Caelan shifted his stance and glanced to Ignis. “Listen, while I’m not exactly unused to larger dance partners, this isn’t exactly my chosen ballroom if you catch my drift?” Probably not, but he was hoping there’d be no questions.

Swallowing a little, he darted out of the thing’s way. “If I distract it, do you reckon that you could use your fancy fire to knock its head off in a couple blows?”

Green eyes narrowed. This was an unpleasant sort of surprise and he wasn't quite sure what to do, but he had to get this done. Caelan might not be able to take this down and quickly going by what the other just said. And hopefully no other nasties were going to head their way after this either.

But he just nodded. "I'll take care of it, you deal with the rest of the riff raff."

And that was good enough for him for a confirmation. A plan in place, Caelan sliced down another one of the undead and removed its head from its with a few swift slices, “Hey! Big guy! Look over here!” He gave a shout before lobbing the skull at the creature to draw it’s attention to him and away from Ignis to help give the man an opening to attack.

It didn't take much for Ignis to plough through and only cut the skeletons that were in his way. Caelan made for quite the distraction and allowed him to jump up on the monster's head.

At first he slipped a bit but then summoned his Drain Lance quickly. He was thrown about a bit of course and nearly stepped on after being thrown off of its back. But once he regained his footing he was able to shove the lance through the back of the thing's neck. That also had him get thrown again but he summoned his daggers. And he ended it's life with two flame engulfed daggers in the chest.

Caelan kept an eye on Ignis, wincing a little as the man was thrown about a bit. He made sure to keep the smaller skeletons and zombies away from the man while he took down the larger undead.

Kicking a last skeleton into the sewer water, he turned quickly to watch it go down, “Nice work, Ignis!”

He heard Caelan cheering him on and Ignis had to smile. That was a far different cry than the last time he had to take on what felt like a small army in Altissia. So once the whatever it had been went down, he focused making his way back up to the other so they could combine their strength.

Caelan cut down a few more, making Ignis’ path a little easier as he made his way back over. That had been an unfortunate surprise that they hadn’t anticipated, and it probably wouldn’t be the last. They’d have a long day ahead of them, perhaps longer depending on how Yuna and the others were doing.

(ooc: FTB with them continuing to bond over taking down the undead?)
