"You know, you're right. It is pretty terrifying...that that much hatred can fit into such small bodies." He wasn't even mocking her. It was actually all the more disturbing because they really only had the capacity for one emotion at a time, so when it was hate...that was scary.

"That, or they have souls that us mere mortals can't fathom." He paused for a moment, working on wording what he was going to say next. "In my world, when you delve into the deeper mysteries of magic, or whatever other fancy term means 'can see more than most people', you just...can? You can see things most people can't. Wizards can do something called 'Soul Gazing'. If we meet your eyes for longer than a few seconds, we see through them, see everything that makes you you in that moment, and see us in return. It's why I don't meet your eyes, I don't want to force that on you. It's...deeply intimate and you can never forget what you see, but I don't have to worry about meeting a Faerie's eyes. They either don't have a soul to gaze upon or it's so alien I can't see it."
