Shinjiro had a vague memory of simpler times when summer vacation meant spending as much time being irresponsible as possible, but it seemed like it had all happened to another kid in another town with a lot fewer worries. Instead, he'd squandered his youth on concerns he'd chosen to shoulder in his own rather than confide in his friends, and it had cost them all more than they could ever recover. They had a small chance here, of course, but that meant making a lot of conscious decisions to be more open and it was going to take a lot of focus for that to happen.
