Yusuke, absorbed in his work, really didn’t notice that someone had taken the other side of the bench he was sitting on. The young man seemed to have laser-like focus when it came to art, and very little could deter him from it once he got going. Which was, again, probably why he was forgetful of other important things he should be doing to take care of himself.
He did, however, finally notice someone was sitting near him after the passer-by directed the insult at him for his strange outburst. Eyes glancing sidelong with some alarm as he wondered if this person was disturbed by him and going to admonish him as well. It wouldn’t surprise him, though, if he were to be called anything? He preferred eccentric. Very carefully, he focused on the page in front of him, gripping the pencil more firmly as he tried to finish drafting the scene he wanted to paint, hoping that he wouldn’t be called out again as he tried to get the form of the shopkeeper behind the produce stand down on paper.
It was a pleasant surprise, though, to hear praise from his current neighbour. Yusuke’s eyes lifted from the page with surprise and distraction. Of course, as if to embarrass him, his stomach grumbled again. Yusuke vaguely wished to curse it, so needy when he had work to finish. Could it not wait for him to be done? So, instead, he ignored it in favour of paying attention to Ignis.
“Thank you, that’s very kind of you to say. It’s only a draft for painting later, though, and an incomplete one at that.” And would remain so in his opinion if he couldn’t at least capture a few more moments to fill it out. He so wanted to capture the life of this world, strange and lovely. The creatures, the people, it was all so very different from what he knew… And yet, so similar in its own way. They seemed to share similar routines and needs. Had their own hopes and dreams. It was truly beautiful.
